Solar Charger Wattage

I am looking at setting up a solar charger for My C-22. My question is; what kind of wattage rating would be needed to keep my battery "topped off"? The ones I am looking at have a rating of 1.5, 2.5, 7, or 20 watts. The only powered items I have on board are a marine radio, nav lights, and cabin lights. I do have a hand held GPS and second hand held marine radio that I would like to be able to charge occasionally as well.

hello

for my sailboat (1967 Kittiwake 23),I have a 3 battery bank, 15 amp solar controller, and 2 - 30 watt solar panels... I have nav lights, mast lights, deck lights, cabin lights, am/fm/cd player, laptop, fridge, water pump, 2 bilge pumps, marine radio, and dc-ac converter for the stove top...

I got the 2 - 30 watt solar panels and the 15 amp solar controller for $125... I bought them on e-bay... I got this set up because of the size of the panels... I needed them to be a certain size to fit my lazarette doors...

I have a lot on my boat in the way of power needs , so I make sure I have the power to cover it... not everyone needs it like this, but I like to camp out on my boat before sailing, or after sailing.... I also fish when I am out on my boat too... or go swimming ....

as my oldest son puts it, my sailboat is my camper on the water...

sincerely
Jess

Bigger is better except for space issues.

I have a 15w with controller on our 27. It does a good job keeping the batteries topped up and can basically run a small fan without a battery.

I run basically the same rig you do electric wise and except an anchor light and a 1 amp fan at night after a few days it starts to loose pace when out for for a week or so. Weekends it is fine.

My new boat has a Renogy 50w that is not much bigger than the sunpro 15w and keeps up easily. I leave my my 2 handheld VHFs always in the charger always charging. Once full they are not a big load and they are always ready.
