The nauticat forum just posted an owner's good review of window tint.com's solar blocking film. the boat owner (in southern italy) said the film reduced the solar load into his cabin substantially and made it much cooler. this is the same film they use on cars down south to reduce heat and solar . has anyone tried it for boat boat hatches and ports? amazon sells it, google :
  1. Exterior Plexi 2 Mil Silver VLT Window Tinting Film 60 ...comes from 20% VLTto 90%. Tinting Film. the film comes in rolls or is pre-cut for certain car windows. there are various light admission grades from 20% to 90 %. we have this film on the back and rear side windows of our RV at 70% . the film makes it hard to see inside from a couple feet away, but it's easy to see from the inside out. I'm thinking of putting it on my 5 deck hatches. any opinions ?

The PO of my boat put something like that on the hatches.

I do think it helps block some of the solar heat.

Only issue I have is that the area around the dogs is a little creased. I assume that the friction of the dogs on the film when opening and closing the hatches are wrinkling the film.

At least the hatch is not cracked( my first concern when I noticed it).

fancy film is "spectrally selective" will block IR (about 40% of incoming solar energy) 90%. More expensive though
