Soft teak: fill or wood hardener?

I have a small patch of teak (about 2 square centimetres) on the cockpit sole that has gone soft: you can pick it off with a finger nail. It's at the edge where the teak meets the gel coat, and where water tends to puddle.
I am wondering about my options, and thinking I could:
1) Cut out and fill
2) Apply a few drips of wood hardener
Does anyone have any thoughts on this please?
