soft deck

get an expert to look at it. this is not a nice job if you have a hull liner. if too bad, they gen either cut the top layer of glass off to replace the bad area, or cut the liner out to repair. you may luck out and be able to drill some holes and drain the water and inject a hardner type stuff. good luck...

thanks for the info it is messy started to rip out starboard side over head liner, got to 1st layer of glass then the wet balsa wood, ripped that out now the top layer of glass i am leaving that and starting to rebuild fromthe top down.i am also going to build some new small er bulkheads behind the main bulk head, about 2 to 3 feet . would it be beter to move all the side stays to the outside of the hull. thanks vincent

Solf Deck Repair

I'll tell you what worked for me. I drilled small (3/16") holes from the top into the solf areas, around the edges and also across the surface. I then injected "non-expanding" insulation foam (any Home Depot or hardware store) into the holes. After the foam had set-up, I redrilled the holes to about a 1/4" depth and sealed/filled them with Marine-Tex. You can use a Dremel Tool to sand/grind down the Marine-Tex to deck level. Using a matching bottle of auto touch-up paint, I "painted over" the Marine-Tex holes. This is not a fancy repair, but it works. Items such as chain plates, cleats or lifelines stantions will need "solid remounting" Good Luck!
