Did you replace it out on the water?

No I changed it at the dock but I would have if I wasn't already close to home. My pump is easy to get to. It wasn't overheating until i was abut a click from home.

No HX and I've flushed the system so I'm not sure where it is unless it broke into small pieces and passed through.

Do you put a new one in every spring? I bet you will now. I just keep letting the replacements stack up in my spares box. When can't remember how many years I've had the boat, I'll be able to just get them out and count.

Well from now on it gets a new one every spring whether it needs it or not. At least I did have a new spare.

You can almost guarantee that a new one once a year will prevent this from ever being a problem. It's much easier to do at commissioning time with no stress than on the water in the middle of a channel with traffic all over the place. Lesson learned.
