Launch Friday, get boat in water, slight leak around engine raw water thru-hull, pull out, rebed thru-hull, 3 hours later go back in

Sat., first weekend out...... sail DDW with 8 knots wind ( crappy ) to 0 knots wind ... to rain front going through to 30 knots... drop anchor at Hope Island all by ourselves to have another sailboat come in and drop anchor right behind us ( Hope is huge anchorage ) .... Amber ( dog ) after tearing around the beach dunes and scruff bush ends up with 2 in. gash in belly.... Sun. am on way home, confused seas between Beckwith and Giants Tomb, 1-2 hours of corkscrew rolling in following seas..... spend 4 hrs. at vet clinic in Barrie ... gash is puncture to vets second knuckle, couple stitches and $ 500 ... interesting weekend.... ;)

Running through the brush and impaled by a branch or something like that, not sure as she often runs out of sight. This island has lots of dunes and scrub bush. She'll be fine, just a couple of weeks with the dog-cone on to stop her from licking the stitches. Could have been a lot worse... and hit an artery or organ...

weather this year sucks. Same in Hamilton. Either high winds or no wind and cold. What happened to the hotter than normal summer they said we were supposed to have. On the other hand its been good experience with the winds. Saw 7+ knts with a rag of sail out. Hope to get up your way sometime this summer for a few days or a week.

Yes, it was a wet, cold weekend, just only a few days after a humidex of 42C. Could be a very volitile wethaer year. We've had a few good t-storms go through 3 nights in a row.

Once you try Georgian Bay, you'll be hooked for life... :)

Puncture wounds ...

our dog had one this winter. She ran into something that must have been buried in the snow behind our house. It took at least a month to heal completely and the way she moped around when we put that cone on was pathetic.

We didn't even notice the wound until we noticed that she kept licking the same location on her chest, it was so small and clean. She never acted like anything was wrong. But it was deep and it took awhile to clear up.

You'd think they'd come up with something better than the cone.... she hates it and don't think she can even drink with it on.

I'm not surprised that she did this, she tears around through this area at full speed.

The cone is torture for Shelby ...

we've had to resort to it a few times because she also cut her paw on another occasion when she races around. We have a cage for her that she likes to lie in when we are watching TV, but with the cone she just stands there and stares at the opening because she is afraid to go in. She also won't lie down so she just stands around looking pathetic. We'd go to sleep and she would just be standing there waiting for somebody to have pity and take it off. So it seemed like a long process ... we take pity but then put it back on when we notice her licking.

I'm surprised to read this - just south of you in Syracuse, NY, we've had a hot, windy spring. It's already tempted 100 degrees (it was high 90s last week, felt like over 100 with humidity). At the same time, the wind has consistently been in the 15 mph range - enough wind for a spirited sail, but not too much to be overpowering.

Got Emmanuel out for her first sail of the year. Saturday was a beautiful day in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. Left Pikes Bay Marina at about 11:15. Blue sky, few clouds, temps in the low 60's. For the first hour or so the wind swung from ESE to ENE along with some big velocity shifts. Finally it settled down out of the NE and blew steady at about 10-12 for a couple of hours. Enough to get us to Stockton Island where we were able to get into the dock although with depths of 5'6" at the dock and Emmmanuel drawing 5' it was a little tricky but it's all soft sand so no harm done. Spent a few hours exploring the island and hiking over to Julian Bay. The wind was dead calm when it was time to head back to Pikes Bay so we motored but it was a beautiful evening. For a shake down cruise it wasn't bad at all.

Had a great sail down the Cape Fear towards Southport. Tides and wind were opposing so it was choppy. but it was fun motoring through them, throwing up a little spray. turned around and had a great run back only had to jibe twice and then a nice broad reach all the way up to Snow's Cut where we lost the wind completely.
