I am considering purchasing rubber "snubbers" for my dock lines. Any opinions about their worth? Thanks

Snubbers

I'm going to purchase a couple too. They absorb most of the shock so that your deck hardware doesn't have to. I have several friends who have them, and I've been on their boats. Big difference. Cheers, Bob

very Worthwhile

Have used them for several years. Really saved the lines in severe blows of 60 mph and more. Buy the appropriate size for your lines. Use liquid soap to work them on your lines - and a vice jaw to pull the line through. However, I do not use them on the spring lines as I feel those are long enough to take the surge . . . Jim

Get 'em

I lived on my 42 with and without snubbers and the ride at the dock was one heck of a lot better with them.

My only responce would be ...................

......... to ensure you do not buy the cheapest one's you can find ........... as I did. They worked great for about a year but I now see they are cracking badly with exposure to the elements. Looks like I'll be replacing them soon with the expensive ones ...... as I should have done the first time. Regards, Island Hunter

I agree

I agree with Ralph. The good ones are black and you wrap the line 2-3 turns around the shaft of the snubber. Get the right size for your boat (bigger is NOT better.) My yacht club requires them on all four corners of the boat! Hayden Watson S/V Papillon 1988 C30 tr/bs Spokane, WA

snubbers

You will really like the snubbers when you get them. Like was said before, do not buy undersized, spend the extra bucks and buy the size for your lines. They are a real pain to install but you will sleep much better both on the boat and away. My only real suggestion is to keep the package that they come in. One of mine cracked after several hard years of use and as long as I had the package, they would replace it for free which they did.

Don't forget about your standing rigging...

and your mast. Snubbers, by absorbing some of the shock of sudden jerks on you docklines, save needless strain on your standing rigging and mast. During a strong drought this year, our lake level dropped so much that they moved our entire marina to another area of the lake. The new area was not protected, and the boats were subject to very rough conditions while in their slips. Everyone who did not have snubbers went out and bought them. Expect to pay about 30 per snubber for a good one. It's a wise choice! Rob
