Anyone out there know what the snap, crackle and pop noise I hear down below is, sounds like someone has just poured a bowl of rice krispies. No matter where I am down below, when it is quiet I hear this noise. Originally I thought it was the wood drying out with the AC on but even out at the mooring I continue to hear it. Any thoughts out there?

Shrimp or other critters?

We were up in the San Juan Islands and heard a bunch of noisy crackle sounds. It was a bunch of shrimp hitting the hull. Do you hear your noise all the time(24x7), or just sometimes?

Noise seems to be there 24/7

Now that I have noticed it, it seems to be there consistently. We are located in Southern Florida.

I vote for shrimp

In warmer climes, like mexico and Florida, there's lot of live stuff in the water. I'd suspect it is shrimp but the barnacles is another reasonable bet. Assuming your bottom is clean, the sound is probably coming from the post near year or even from the bottom. S.

the banicles make the noice all by themslves

The noise is from sea critters, barnicles, and oysters doing there thing. You will hear it near docks or over a good fishing spot, in the old days thas how we would know when we over a rock pile. Most people dont take time to listen, but the boat is a great speaker for everything going on below.

shell fish

all the little shellfish barnicles, oysters and so on make the noise. You wil hear it at the dock or over rock piles or reefs in tropic waters. This is how we used to locate fishing spots before we had sounders to find them. drift and listen and you could fine the spots were shell fish were living. and where bigger fish feed. The boat acts as a big speaker to amplify the sound.
