Maybe... :) "Bendix" is kind of a generic term for the sliding one way clutch/gear that engages the flywheel.. They used to be inertia initiated, but most now are fork/solenoid actuated..

I'll have you know I'm younger than most sailors, even the ones my age!

Jim is correct, if you hold the bendix out it is possible to keep the contacts closed in the solenoid.

I find that while trouble shooting:
1. It is often two problems causing the symptoms.
2. The cause is often spotted and then dismissed as not the problem.
3. At some point the tech/owner puts something back together wrong and causes the second problem.
4. The tech/owner gets fixated one the wrong problem.

I was mostly "thing out loud", pardon my ramble.
