We met a young German couple in Long Island, Bahamas living on a tri-maran. They had been traveling the out-islands and Jumentos for several years and doing quite well. They could match wave speed going down wind so they would stay in the trough of waves for a comfortable ride. Into the wind they would wait for calmer days and sail at 10-12 kts. Drafting less than 20 inches anchoring was always close to shore so they could use a fold-a-boat to row in or just swim. They had a small cooler for fresh food and had developed a routine for restocking at several little stores. Not much storage but no need for many items.
