Hi, I have just purchased a boat launched in '97 which is in pristine condition. I am puzzled by a nasty water smell when the tap is turned on. After running for a while it is not there. Any ideas of how to rectify? I have inspected pumps and lines under the sink- which look OK to me. Seems to be worst from forward tank. I plan to flush out and treat with a conditioner, is there anything else I should do?

Smelly H2O

Bruce Most likely from the hw heater. We habitually use the HW faucet when using water, hardly ever use the CW faucet, just to keep water flowing through the heater as much as possbile. Suggest you also go to www.c34.org. Stu

Chlorinate

Try chlorinating your whole system to kill any bacteria that might be in there. Peggy has the whole procedure in the HEAD MISTRESS archives but here it is in a nutshell. Fill the water tanks and add a half a cup of bleach to each. Next turn on the cold water taps and run the water until you can smell the chlorine. Next run the HW tap until you can smell chlorine coming out of that one too. Next let it sit overnight. The next day drain the system and flush completely until you can't smell chlorine in the water. Good Luck
