I have a 1995 H-29.5 with what appears to be the standard battery charger system. The charger is a Dytek brand charger, white in color but no helpful informtion on the exterior. I assume it's installed either at the Hunter factory or by the dealer. My question: is this a "smart" multi-stage charger or is it simply an oudated one that throws a constant charge into the battery system and eventually, if left running long term, would fry or shorten the life of my bank of batteries?

My '94, 35.5...

had a "Frytek" on it that I couldn't get off the boat quick enough. Pretty sure they are not "smart" chargers, mine sucked regardless, and since I'd had good experience with Truecharge 20 amp that's what I went with. I'm sure you'll get some better info. than that here, but that's my experience.

I just replaced a dead Guest 2614 with another one because it uses three stages with "smart" technology for two batteries. It's a 10/5 amp output used for house/starting on two dual purpose deep cycle 27's. When in the slip on shore power it can "float" 12 volt use. Around $200.
