Our Chrysler C-26 has plenty of room and has a diesel inboard option, Very well built and stylish.

You canfind them at a good price if you look.

I was on a Watkins 25 that I had plenty of head room and it had a small inboard diesel. That was 8 years ago. Don't know anything about the baot's quality or performance. My friend had a Tanzer 25 didn't have 6' headroom but was roomy and it had an outboard.

Think most of the bristol's were pretty roomy boats, the 24 has about 6' headroom, The Triton also.
I'd rather have a boat that's a foot too short to stand, than one that's only an inch or so too short.
I'm only 5'6, so standing room for me is easy to find, but not a deal breaker.
Think the only place that standing room is any more than a convenience is at the galley, and then only when cooking.

My Bristol 24 has about 6' of headroom in the cabin, and an 8hp diesel inboard. It also cost much less than the Flicka. I've done off shore passages as well as river trips with her. A good sailing boat wihen you have good sails and are not afraid to use them.

Thanks for all the good input. It helps refine the possibilities of what to look for. At the present we are honing our skills and increasing our experience. We will take advantage of sailing on other boats when possible to see what might work for us.

I should have mentioned that my wife does get claustrophobic and we both have a bit more girth than we did when in our early twenties. If we travel the ICW, I expect more than a few hotel stays.

Regarding Mr. Herreshoff's opinion of cabin activities, most endusers find many more uses than the designers ever imagine. He also likened fiberglass boats to "frozen snot". But he did build "elegant (boats) for a more civilized age" to paraphrase. I do love the feel of a wooden boat...

I have a 1990 Hunter 27 (not a chernubi), and have over 6 feet of headroom. The previous comment about there being a surprising amount of cabin space was the same reaction I had the first time I looked at the boat. Overall I am VERY happy with the boat, and she is pretty quick. I am usually sailing her around 5-6kts anytime the wind is over 5kts. I pretty easily beat and consistantly beat a Catalina 25 with similar displacment, LOA, and sail area.
