Has anyone gone to a smaller Tiller Wheel for ease of movement from the helm to the front of the cockpit? I've been in rough water and high winds in our 30 and found the large wheel to be more than enough.. meaning, i could go smaller and be ok.

Any thoughts? i did a quick search in the forum and didn't really find anything.

Most C30 questions are about trying to install a larger wheel to be able to sit on the coaming and reach the wheel. I frankly haven't heard this question, ever.

We have a smaller wheel. I'm not sure how small since I'm not at the boat at the moment. It's a nice Edson wheel with a teak rim, which I very much like, and it does make moving around it much easier. On the other hand, it takes more effort to steer, particularly in quartering swells with a pretty stiff breeze. Like most everything in life, it's a trade off ... convenience vs. ease of handling. I've often wondered if it would be worth it to trade for a larger wheel to get easier steering ... As soon as I decide that, however, I decide to do nothing and keep that cool teak rim.
