small outboard storage on stern pulpit

Anybody have any ideas for mounting a 2hp outboard on the stern pulpit? WM has a plastic bracket to over the rail/stantion, however, the bracket is designed for rail to stantion angle of 90 degrees. Mine is probably closer to 80 and, of course, the bracket won't fit. I'm in the process of grinding but I think I'll have to take out to much plastic. Yrs ago, I bought one made of teak which was easy to modify....

Two pieces of wood of your choice, sharpie to trace the exact angle, and a router.

If there is a horizontal rail midway up, include that in your wood mount for extra strength. I had one of those plastic ones and it scared me to think of using it. I was lucky and found one of the good Edsons at Bacons for a great price.

Find a Hallberg Rassy in your marina and copy theirs. Its a teak board basically - HR sells them too, but it would be just as easy to copy.

I use to make the brackets out of teak, oak, mahogany & ipe wood, any good hard wood will work. Take a piece of cardboard cut to the size you need to mount the motor, measure the diameter of the rail, trace the rail and the stantion where you'll mount the engine, then find the degree of angle to make the engine mount set level. also check to see where the skeg of the engine will come in contact with the rail of the boat, you might want to also cut and mount a small piece of the same wood so the skeg doesn't mark or damage the boat. Tale all your drawings and measurements home cut the wood, router out for the stantion and rail make sure you dry fit it onthe boat, then drill for bolts that will be counter sunk and bolt it togeather, this way you can always remove it if you have too. Have fun, and sail on

simplest solution

I have a little 2 hp outboard. I simply mounted the bracket on the rail without using the stanchion, then tied a block onto the bottom of the outboard and onto the lower rail to prevent the outboard from banging around. Easy and simple and it works.

I used teak

I made my engine pad out of teak. I cut the standard "T" track in it even though the stanchion meets the top rail right where it curves forward. I put a 1" diam. dowel in the down track of the "T" and just rest it on the outside of the lower rail to keep the pad from rotating. It looks kind of like a rectangular lollipop.
