Small lines inside the boom

After a crazy day on S.F. Bay with reefing required, I discovered different colored twine (jute rope--very thin) coming out of the forward end of the boom. In fact, the reefing line was hung up by it. As near as I can tell, these were leader lines to help string the various lines through the boom. Anyone know for sure?

Leader lines

I have a H-27 (1978) with triple sheaves at the end of the boom and 2 cam locks and a cleat at the forward end. I have always assumed that the center sheave is for the outhaul (?) to tension the foot of the main. I assume that the port and starboard sheaves are for the 1st and 2nd reef points. It would seem that the jute lines were used to thread the reefing lines. Someday I'll acutuallf figure all this stuff out.
