Small leak at the bow on the starboard side

I noticed I have a small leak at the bow on the starboard side. The only thing I can think is that there might be a leak from the anchor locker drain. We have had a lot of rain lately and there was only a small amount of water which made the wall carpet wet at the bow on the starboard side and then ran down and made the wall carpet wet at the bottom running back along the v-berth. Has anyone else experienced this in a H260 and how did you fix it?

John, You also want to check the anchor lid locking handle. We found that the hole in the side of the lid was not sealed and water was getting in there. Jim S/V Java

I had a problem

The anchor locker drain hose from the anchor well to the drain on the stbd side parted. I kept getting water in the fwd bildge, it drove me crazy. I finally took the bow cap off ( 4 screws) and found the fresh water and anchor drain hose. The very fwd space below the hoses had filled with water (15-20 gal). The water I found in the bildge was just the overflow of this fwd space. I tried to hose out this water from above but couldn't get it all, so I took my heart in my hands and drilled out a hole as low as possible into this bouyancy tank to drain the rest of the water, the tank was filled with plastic bagged buoyant material, that I did my best not to disturb it then drained. I then took a hose, and fitted a hose to the hole I had drilled and blead dry air (15psi) to try to dry out the little bit of water left. I've had no more problems and a dry blidge. If this doesn't make sence e-mail me. LKYusnret2@aol.com

Jim I Think Answered This One

I have noticed the samr thing on my 23.5. I have not as yet fixed or even thought of what I was going to do yet. Two things I have considered first to drill a hole in the recess that the latch sits in so that the water drains into the anchor well, not sure if that is a good idea or not. the other was to glue a peice of wood where the rod comes through the deck and then drill the hole out again for the latch into the wood. While your at it paint or varnish the inside of the bulkhead and all of the hatch covers. The bare wood collects moisture and then molds up pretty good. That is on my list as well but have not gotten around to it either. One of the covers was destroyed by woisture before I bought my boat I usually keep them open and turned up so it has not been an problem.

John; Remove the front plate in the forward v berth. Throw wqter top sides and look in the area to see if you can find the water. If not and it drives you nuts, then give me a call and I will plan to meet you at the lake or wherever . OK Crazy Dave Condon

Forward Bilge Pump

I had a similar problem, where the fresh water hose split, and I flooded the forward compartmentflushing the fresh water system. Like you, I drilled two holes low, and used a manual bilge pump. However, once I fixed the hose, I installed an automatic bilge pump at the forward bulkhead. It works great for emptying the fresh water tank before winter. I just disconnect the hoses, and let it drain in the bilge. The pump sends it overboard.
