I think that you're right, Jack. I didn't see a lot of large powerboats cruising on the river last summer in my neck of the woods, as in previous years. I think that the high gasoline prices are killing them. That was a great story, by the way. I really enjoyed it.

themacway, just love cultural anthropology. Yes, I see and hear of change, and one of the things will be sailing. Not a whole lost of investing anymore, just finding something relaxing and cheap, to spend the rest of days. Daysailor or small sail -boats, will be, I think the next great move of the Baby boomes. thanks for your comments.

Great read...even a novice can enjoy sailing small.
Thanks Mark! My boat "Trinkka" is small compared to others, but at 22' she has taken me to most places that her big sisters have gone. Once you get to know your boat and know her limitations, you can sail her most anywhere. Years ago I had a choice of buying a motorcycle or a small sailboat and I chose the sailboat. I never got into RVs, but if I ever did, I'd probably buy a small Tear Drop trailer that can be towed pretty easy by most small cars. The O'Day 222 fulfills my needs. It's small and easy to handle, and I can take it home anytime I want. My wife got cruised out years ago so I bring my dog Penelope with me. We tow a small kayak behind the boat and she can jump in and out of it pretty easy from the boat. Actually, the boat is cheaper than an RV because you can anchor most anywhere for the night and it's free---so far! Check out my Owner Photo Album on this site under "Trinkka." Also, I just made a post on the "Rolling Hitch" which I think is a great hitch to learn.
Smooth Sailing!

Thanks for the story, I like the idea of going 55 knots on the highway to different places of interest. I will be moving to MO. and will now look at my puchase of a lake boat a bit differently
I like low to no maintenance. I'm in a sailing club (thier boats),
'No muss, No fuss, Just sail.

Hi Jason,
Actually, I posted this story about one year ago on this forum and whoever worked on this web site this past week, resurrected it again by mistake I guess. Anyway, I'm sure that you're probably reading it for the first time so I'll reply to it anyway with much appreciation. I think that becoming a member of a sailing club was the smartest move I've ever made. I've met so many nice people and have had a blast at the get-togethers we've had. I can leave my truck at the club and go cruising in my boat for two or three days sometimes without worry. I haven't had to buy ice in years. We have a large ice machine in the club house. The thing that I like about a small boat is that you can anchor in shallow water in a favorite cove for the night and never worry about slipping your anchor. I also have a blast trolling for fish off my boat and sometimes cooking up the catch. It's going to be tough for me this year because I've decided to go on a diet. So, no more chicken pot pies and French Fries, hot dogs and potato chips, and large dinners and suppers on the boat. I need to stick to eating more vegetables and less meat. Outside of that, I'm looking forward to a great boating season with plenty of adventure. I wish you a great boating season too.
Smooth Sailing!

Nice "striper" and good looking dog bro..
Thanks Mark!
I hope that I catch another one like that this spring. Last year I took a friend of mine, "Storm'n Norman Hooben" of AL.(Google his name) with me out on the river and I was trolling an orange Rapala Magnum lure while we were sailing near a generating station. All of a sudden I got a hit and I yelled over to him, "Fish on Norman!" "Do you want to take him in?" "It's probably a large Blue fish." Well, that large Blue fish turned out to be a 32" Striper and I could have kicked myself for handing him the pole! After he boated him he took a picture of me holding his Striper, so it looked like I caught the fish anyway. The dog is a Pit Bull/Greyhound, born in Little Rock AK. I picked her out on the web and adopted her from a rescue in Framingham Ma.
