Small genset advice

Catalina 36 MKII - 1885 Lighthouse Point, FL
Sorry if this has been asked in the past - can't seem to find anything specific. Still researching, but looking at purchasing a boat in range of 36-38' between about 2006-12, for some coastal cruising and south FL daysailing (weekending) for family of 3. Beneteau, Jeanneau, Catalina...etc. We're restricted somewhat to wing keels less than 5' draft, so can't go bigger on the boat. Several boats in this range have single 16K BTU ac systems (a must in S. FL summers), but few have generators. Looking for advice on a reliable brand, reasonable install, and (hopefully) quiet-er genset. Quality over value (not looking for a cheap solution), but something that will fit and meet our ac "hot sun afternoons on the hook" needs. Diesel preferred.

Has anyone added a generator to a boat of this size? Also, if you're in S. FL (Broward Co. area), any recommendations of where to get pro install would be great. Thanks in advance!
Chris

You might the threads below on this subject helpful. If the sailboats you are looking for has a modest size aft lazarette then that would be a suitable location to install one. My Hunter 386 had and 46 has a large aft starboard lazarette that a generator could be installed in. Suggest doing an internet search on marine contractors who install generators and discuss your project with them.
