Sludg-in-drains

The clear 1" drain lines from head sink & galley sink have years of funk in them partially obstructing drainage. The length of these hoses is perplexing, they appear way too long, hold 24" of water in the excess (p-trap?). Can they be shortened? Is the length necessary to prevent water-back?

On a boat there is no need for a p-trap as the sole purpose of a trap is to prevent sewer gas from entering your house. Make the drain run as short and direst as possible.

I wanted to hear that. There is 48" of foul ,nasty hose to go 12" to the thru-hull drain hole. I intend to cement on a sweep ell and be rid of 30" of smegma. Thanks for the confirmation.
