Got a bit of a problem that I would love to through out for some others
experiences
We are new to sailing. My wife and I found and fell in love with 28FT Hunter with a 2GM, back in Oct 2011. Moved it from Georga to Fla renew the bottom, clean & paint. My problem is I was running 3600rpm @ WOT, recently found I'm only 3000@WOT also lost one mile of speed any ideas
oh let me add I'm dock at a local marina

Have you had the bottom of the boat cleaned since you had it "renewed" last year? Down here in FL especially with the warm winter we had the bottom should be scrubbed at least once a month. I'm sure you can hire a local diver to do the maintenace cleanups.

Most likely a fouled prop i.e. marine growth on the propeller. It's amazing how only a few small barnacles will greatly reduce the performance of my 2GM. It's easily enough to clean the prop yourself and I suspect you will notice a big difference.

just to add some info I also tried tide at the dock and only build 3000 in forward but 3600 in neutral

Sounds like foul prop to me. A prop with barnacles is about as efficient as tying bricks to the shaft and then thrashing the water.
