Could anyone explain to me the difference between a sloop and a non-sloop? Are there any differences in the interior of the boat, (ie. layout, galley, head, etc). Specifically the Mac-25 and Mac-25 Sloop....

Ummm...

Perhaps you are referring to the s in 25s, it refers to a swingkeel and not sloop. As far as I know all the 25 and 26 models are rigged as sloops, meaning a simple mainsail and foresail plan.

Sloop vs non-sloop

A sailboat that has only one mast is called a "sloop" ... the Mac25 is a "Sloop" (please see the Macgregor Owners.com website for a pln view of the MacGregor sailboats) Bottom line ... enjoy your sailing and don't worry about "sloop"!

venture 23 cutter

A cutter rig has 2 head sails on one mast. the venture 23, (and maybe the 22/21?) had this setup. very nice for storms, and good way to go wing/wing, or get a lot of cloth up... light air... just about anything else would need 2 masts.

I think, but not positive...

that a cutter technically has a sprit and dual stays...as the 23 does. I think the 21 and other boats with inner and outer stays without sprits are called dual headstay sloops.

Sloop vs. non-sloop

Visit" http://boattalk.com ... ere you can see photos of the various silboat configurations, including: SLOOP = Sailing vessel rigged with one mast and a single jib and mainsail YAWL =Two-masted boat where a smaller, shorter mast, called a mizzen, is located behind the steering mechanism, or helm. KETCH = Two-masted boat where the mizzenmast stands before the helm CUTTER= Similar to a sloop except sails are arranged so that many combinations of areas may be obtained. Happy sailing!

What about a fractional rigged sloop?

So what is a fractional rigged sloop? Does this mean that the forstay attaches only part way up the mast like on the Mac, instead of at the top? Kirk

You've got it Kirk

The fractional rig can vary from around 3/4 (like the 26C) to 7/8 (like the 26X). Fractionals tend to be a little more vesatile than mast head rigs for a variety of reasons.
