My Barlow winches on my Catalina 27 were corroded and pretty rough looking when I got the boat two years ago, so last summer I sanded off as much of the pitted chrome plate and got down to the shiny brass which looks great when polished. My problem is that I also sanded of the rough surface that is supposed to grip with the sheets. Pretty stupid on my part. Any ideas on how to get back the non-skid surface on the winch areas that grip the sheets. Should I rough it up with coarse sandpaper or file it with a very course file or maybe a drill with a filing bit on it? Many thanks on whatever ideas you might have.
