Does'nt it just tick you off when after a long day out on the water you arrive back at the harbor to find some jerk tied off in your slip. And to top it off, he has backed into it, not the way it is done in Oshkosh. Actually just doing some work on a friends slip. Theres actually 30" of ice on the lake now.

Hey!

I was going to pull my ice boat into that slip! Do they do any hard water sailing up on Oshkosh. I got my first ride in one down on L Geneva last week.

Darn

If the ice wasn't so thick, you could hope he'd fall through. You COULD get your ice fishing auger and drill holes around the perimeter of the slip so he'd have fun trying to get out. Bet he wouldn't be back after that. Also note that he's not actually tied in the slip. If he was to "float away", whose fault would that be?

all that white stuff

Spent the past week in New Mexico, where they had all sorts of white stuff on the ground, similar to what's going on in your slip. Totally gross. Had to take the beast out sailing this afternoon just to shake off the willies. Despite the fair winds, I couldn't quite get winter out of my head: when the wind reached 22 knots it got a bit chilly, so I started to put in a reef. The wife suggested I put on a windbreaker instead, but I wasn't quite that desperate, so we decided to ease the traveller a bit and just tough it out. February, after all, is a difficult place to sail.

Higgs

Higgs- Yes, Ice boating is very popular here. I think the lake holds some of the World Ice Boat records. Ice boaters travel to wherever good ice is. Lake Geneva has the best around now. I know a bunch went out to Montana to only find no wind. If we get a nice warm spell, enough to get a little surface water to form followed by a shot of cold. Every ice boater in the Midwest will be here. Isnt Lake Geneva a cool place. Rob

ROFLMAO...

That's too funny. Reminds me of the movie, The Four Seasons. Waiting for the ice to crack and the trunk to sink. "My Mercedes!" LOL!

You poor bastards

Winters back has broken, the daffodils are blooming, the trees are fuzzy with buds. Three, (3), (III), (Tres), weeks and we can drain the pink stuff out of the boat, take out the Golden Rods, and heaters. The only cold will be the Pina Coladas and cold brews! I empathize with ya'll in the great frozen north... doesn't global warming sound pretty good right now???

Hear you Dave,

Global warming is what caused the last ice age to come to a halt! Even though it hasn't been all that cold down here, it has been colder than I prefer. A little warming would be a good thing. Bring it on!!!!

Steve - where is Bayshore, NY?

We hit 46 degrees today in Olcott - along L Ontario's southern shore 18 miles east of the Niagara river.

I certainly long for your warm weather and you do hit a nerve rubbing it in, and I would unmercifully do the same if I lived down there. I sailed out of Spring Lake/Galvaston Bay for a while and considered settling there permantly, but opted for Great Lakes. We do have some advantages, it's just that winter is not one of them. Get out there and enjoy your boat - you are fortunate. I will never forget a sail down there I had on Chrsitmas Eve day that was just great. Is the sea food place still at the G Bay/Spring lake entrance? What a great place. I remember one day sailing out into G Bay as the tide was coming in. We sat in front of that restaurant for quite a while on a broad reach moving very nicely through the water, but not gaining an inch on the land until we fired up the engine to move into the bay. I even worked for Pearson Yachts in the late 70's when they had a plant in Texas City.

Outrigger's

Outrigger's, under the bridge in the channel from Clear Lake to Galveston Bay. Yes, it is still there. I had several oysters and coldies there this last weekend! yes, it is a very nice place to sail - we only moved the boat here mid summer last year.

Bay Shore's

on the south shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, about 30 miles east of NYC. I'm not going in as early as RAD though - looking more like April 22 or so for me...

Steve

There is no such thing as "interupting" on a public forum. I thought the restaurant was named Wlkers or something like that, but I could certainly be wrong. My memory is that it was on the south side of the channel and had great food.

Spring is coming real soon

I heard the birds this morning and mother nature never lies. I was thinking today if I should pull the cover off this weekend

The Canadian Geese were in flight today up here. They think it is spring and so do I.
