Slip Suggestions

hey guys, so we have another question. We are on a waiting list for a 12x32 slip and are stuck using a 10x28 for now. Length is t a problem but with a 260 we only have about 4" on either side. The slips are concrete so we need protection on the sides. Thinking about hanging some wood down the side covered with carpet. What else would you recommend or any other ideas for a tight slip?

Wow, that is tight. Even a 2x4 will eat up 1.5 inches of your 4 on either side, plus the thickness of the carpet, but I cant think of anything better. Am I correct in assuming you would hang the apparatus from the dock, rather than the boat? Long 2x4's get heavy, and if the carpet is wet, even heavier. Good luck.

Can you take a photo of that slip from the side and second from the bow looking back. Are you on a lake, secluded cove, posted speed limit or no wake and so on.

Sure thing! I'll be out there today so I'll get the pictures then. Yes it is a lake and the marina is secluded and in a no wake zone. Shouldn't have much of an issue with the boat moving too much.

On a lake you won't have to worry with tides and such I would go to dollar store and buy those foam noodles then to home depot and buy the gigantic plastic tie wraps wrap the noodles stacked to post and tie wrap them down

So, after measuring 1000000 times we will have about 3" on either side at most. All this will allow is maybe a 2x10 wrapped in carpet.

Question now, we are paying ~70$ / month for this slip, and it'll be ~85$/month going to the next size up. The third option, which I am now leaning towards but would like an opinion on, is another small marina on the lake. It is $150 / month so more expensive, however it is a floating wood dock with built in cushioning into each slip. 12x28 slips so plenty of room, and they have electricity and water. Is it worth the extra money in you all's opinion?

If it doesn't break the budget, go for it! Floating docks are great.

In the meantime, how about hanging some heavy duty rubber/carpet door matts. Should be thin enough to allow you some room but sturdy to protect the boat. Might even be able to use some scrap EPDM pond liner in 45 or 60mm as a temporary cushion.
We pay more for an oversize slip just for the extra room it gives me to entering and leaving. To me it is worth it. A floating dock would need to match the free board of the boat for us.

$75-85. That is another world. Port of Everett charges $9.50 per foot per month.
Plus electrical plus eps fees and taxes.

Floating docks are nice, but only you can decide if that plus the water and electricity are worth the extra $65 ($150 minus $85, since you want the bigger slip no matter what). That might depend on how you use the boat (day sailer carrying on bottled water vs. weekending or more) and your energy usage (do you need to keep a charger plugged in). Convenience is sometimes worth it, but $150 is almost double the $85. Your boat, your choice.

Does the other marina charge extra for the electricity and water, or is it included in the $150? That should enter into your thinking.

We found having power and water at a slip made staying on our former boat very convenient and spent a lot of time meeting other boaters. Most of those people still keep in touch even though we've all moved away from that marina.

The width at the widest spot is 8' 11" on the Hunter 260 but You stated a 10 foot wide slip. As for the hull, it protrudes in from the hull to deck joint that protrudes outward I think. Are you sure that is a 10 foot wide slip? I would measure it for sure. The other problem is concrete and that alone is a risky issue. I would suggest bite the bullet and go for the floating dock with a much wider space plus you have water and electrical too. Why worry and go enjoy.

Yeah I think that's the way we are leaning Dave. It's 10' from pier to pier so inside the cement is only 9'5".

Wow is that Tight I have at least 6 feet on either side my Beam is 10.5 and I have at least 6 feet till the boat on the other side is even close. I pay with taxes 313 per month for a 36 foot slip I guess I'm Lucky to have such a Large area to Park mine I wish you had more Room I hope all the fixes keep your boat Safe.

Payton, when you worry, you spend time worrying. Go ahead and move and stop worrying and enjoy life.
I am frustrated right now as I am deactivated from hiking, working on this mountain top with 340 degree views, playing with the grandsons due to a stent implant but once when I am taken off restrictions, then damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead.
