Challenger sloop Alameda
Good afternoon , my question is for San Francisco bay sailors. I just got a letter from my marina (Alameda marina) that our slip is going up $62.00 dollars a month starting 7-1. I have to admit it probably brings us more in line with other marinas in the bay. However our docks are not secured by locked gates and maintenance has been an issue at times. I'm wondering if there are any 36 ft slips available in the Oakland, Berkeley area and are you happy with the way things are run?

Thanks Gary

I forgot to mention there are plans in the works to build 500 to 600 residential units right in front of my slip which is currently marine storage (small boats) and some commercial office units.

Thanks again Gary

Berkeley marina is OK. It is gated and I have never had any issues. It has also gone up recently but not that much. It is not particularly full so I am sure you could get a slip right away. Running about $11.25 per foot for a leeward slip.

Gary, have you tried Grand Marina? I've been there 18 years after 13 at Alameda Marina. Concrete docks are soooo much nicer.

A friend of mine moved his C36 from Fortmann to Berkeley a few years ago. I tried to talk him out of it. First post after he moved? "How do I dock my boat in HIGH winds?" :):):)

Thanks Stu, I was hoping to hear from you as I would love to stay down in that area. I looked them up on line and there wasn't a lot of info about docks, maintenance and such. I'm probably going to go and talk to the Harbor master next weekend. If your in the area I would love to meet you. I'll PM you when I have a better handle on my timing.

Thanks Gary
