When I saw the LI Slip Fee thread, I got to thinking about my area. I guess I take it for granted that everyone charged in the same manner. At my current marina (California Yacth Marina, Chula Vista), I am paying a yearly fee of about $3500. This is in the water yearly. But I live in Oceanside, one hour north of Chula Vista. We have a marina here but the wait list is about 2 years.I had an interesting conversation some time ago with a gentleman while at the Camp Pendleton marina. We were talking about the marina right next to the one I was at. He mentioned a transfer fee if one were to buy a boat and keep it at that marina. So I called and found out the following information.I enquired about a (factious) 26' foot boat I was interested in buying and maintaining the slip. Here is what I was told…Transfer of the slip would cost $16.50 per foot. The marina wants first month plus a deposit. $10 for a boat inspection fee and $60 for two marina gate keys (2x$30). I believe the cost for the 26’ boat is $9.00/ft slip rent. So…Transfer = $429.001st Month = $234.00Deposit = $234.00Inspection = $10.00Keys = $60.00Total = $967.00Plus, $80/yr for property tax of the water under the slip. The marina is Oceanside Harbor, Oceanside Ca.Oceanside is located between Dana Point (about 22nm north) and San Diego Bay (about 52nm south). There is one marina next door to Oceanside on a military reservation, Camp Pendleton. I am on the wait list at both marinas (Camp Pendleton because I am a retired Marine). However, there are no other marinas in the area. Dana Point has two Marinas while San Diego Bay has at least a dozen if not more.Just sharing information.
