Could someone tell me where on my 1998 28.5 Beneteau I should put the slings when lifting the boat out.

Suggest that you try www.beneteau.com they might be able to provide that information.
If that doesn't work . try to get the slings lined up with the bulkheads , that would be the strongest points on the boat.

Everyone should have the plans and elevations of their boats ON their boats. It comes in the boat manual you get with your boat. Shows where to put the slings --- or most of the time where NOT to put them.
Not sure if all Beneteaus have this or when they started doing it but my 1996 36S7 has little triangles molded in. They are about 3/4 inch long and are at the water line stripe. They show the sling locations as does the owners manual.
