The yard that hauled my O'day 25 had trouble figuring out exactly where to position their travel lift slings on the boat. They suggested that I get a set of diamond-shaped "sling" decals to stick on the hull just below the toe rails, and showed me another boat that had these in place. I've checked West Marine, and various other local outlets, but can't seem to find a source for sling decals so far. Anybody know where I can buy these? Thanks!

Any port in a storm

Knowing where the slings go is a good idea -- we almost took our out propshaft hauling the boat this fall. Many people would be happy to sell you a sling decal kit for $19.99 (A $587 value!!!) The kit consists of a permanent magic marker and a piece of cardboard with a diamond shape cut out in the middle. You line the top of the cardboard up parallel with the top of your toerail so that the diamond shape is near the top of the hull topsides. You then trace out the diamond shape, using the cardboard as a stencil. You may want to select a color that contrasts with, but which is complementary to, your topsides color. Maybe the same color as your cove stripe or waterline? You can color in the whole diamond shape, or part of it, to make it "customized". (This does not cost extra.) Repeat for the other three locations the slings need to go, making sure they're even on both sides of the boat. If you've got a dark hull that won't show the marker..... use a piece of tape, or file a small notch in the toerail. It beats wasting time in the store when you could be out sailing.

Check with Oday....

...I have them on my Hunter. Came with them from the factory. All Hunters that I've seen have them. If Oday dosen't use them, check with Hunter, they have an 800 number which will get you to their parts dept. Good investment.

I sail a H37C and my yard asked for the same information. What I gave them was a White dot on the Boot stripe indicating where the slings were to be placed. I used white nail polish. It had been on the boat for six seasons and works great

Catalog Info

Almost every boat manufacturer gives you a side view of the boat with the underwater appendages shown. Just make a copy and keep it on your boat, say, with your log book, or maintenance log. You'll always have a picture to show the guy running the sling. Stu

Good Idea!

I like the dot painted on the bootstripe. I spend a lot of time around lifts and it's usually the low paid emplyees (less experienced) that get the job. All you have to do is tell the guy/gal is put the strap over the dot. I think another dot up above the rubrail would be of value. Fair winds~~~~~
