Slim Jim Android Anchor Alarm

So let me see if I have this straight:
you go ashore in a storm..... and the anchor drags.....you get a high tech text alerting you ...... you go back to the boat in a storm.... and fix it.
Not at all sure why you would leave the boat in a storm but...I suppose that a summer thunder storm could "sneak up on you" They are pretty sneaky those thunder storms.
I guess this could alert you if the tide turns (heaven knows we don't ever know when that is going to happen??) and the anchor drags.

I guess I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how this would be enormously helpful as I would not go ashore in a storm cause seeing the sights in a storm is not really fun. I'd want to get back to the boat if a thunderstorm popped up as I don't want to be in the dingy during a storm and I already know when the tide will turn and if anchoring in a tidal stream I use the right anchor.

I guess I am a victim of only dragging anchor twice. Once due to trash on a danforth fluke and once in a cove that had really bad bottom. We could not even get the anchor to set so we found a better place further on.
If you are a beer drinker then you are going to be getting up in the middle of the night anyway and it is blindingly easy to look out the window and check the range lights.

I didn't see him mention a storm anywhere in there. Only going ashore for dinner, which I feel is pretty acceptable. What's wrong with wanting something to watch your boat when you're away, even if the circumstances are good? Last time I went to Catalina the harbor was full and I ended up having to anchor. The weather was beautiful and the anchor held just fine all night long. In the morning we went to shore for breakfast and to enjoy the day a little and when we came back the wind had shifted and my boat had dragged a bit. No storm, no severe conditions, and an anchor that had been holding for ~15 hours before we left. Our timing was pretty good, as it hadn't gone far, but had we decided to stay another hour? We weren't far away, the weather was great. Had the alarm sounded we could have been there in a matter of minutes and remedied the situation with little stress.

I'm having a hard time understanding why you would have a hard time understanding how this could be a useful tool. Seems kinda like you're stuck in the dark ages and resisting the usefulness of technology to me. The only catch I see is that you would have to be anchored in a place with cell signal in order for the alerts to work, and you would of course need 2 phones.

Not a beer drinker. A wife that is that emotionally into the boat is a wonderful thing. Do not attempt to apply reason to my wife. If it makes her sleep better to have an anchor alarm on the boat, that means she enjoys cruising on the boat. If she enjoys leaving the boat knowing she will receive a text if it moves, that means she is giddy about cruising on the boat.

Having a wife that loves sailing and cruising......priceless. Keep buying things that reinforce that love. I know many men at our Yacht club that have wives that have no desire to step on their boats....ever.
