Sliding hatch

So I took, I think, Jims advice and fitted velcro (the hairy side) to each side of the slide last night. Boy what an improvement. It slides like a dream. Only thing is the fibreglass forward part of the hatch rests on the perspex so I am going to add some more to the rubber stoppers under it that sit in the channel so it lifts about 1/4 inch. I still have this problem with it leaking. Lat night during a heavy downpour I sat inside and found that the water is coming I think around the ends of the front peice of wood adn then running intot he middle of the slide and spilling out on the floor. Has anyone made a modification in theis area and had success?

this works

I installed a felt strip on both side runners, the kind you can buy at Lowes, it has a sticky side and I installed it the full length of the runner. I then gave it a coat of patroulm (SP) jelly and that hatch just slides great and no leaks. I had it on the boat for a year now and it still in place John Baums Rush

great idea

That is also a good idea but does not prevent water from sneaking around the front edge!

Ray Bowles

Mark, I found on my H26 that I had to bolt

the wood piece to the plexaglass as the wood screws simple pulled the threads out and then the glass sagged and the water ran right around it. I drilled through the wood and used small machine bolts, washers and nuts. They held and the glass didn't bow and the leak stopped. I also caulked both sides of the wood. Ray S/V unknown but soon to be identified. Ps. Mark, why did you buy the hairy velcro? I thought that being a good Aussie you'd just pull a strip of hairy chest skin off and use it.

Not Tarzan/Ray

Thanks Ray I will pull the hatch out over the next few day and bolt it as you have suggested. Regards

caulk

Mark; Once the seal or caulk is broken, you really need to pull the lexan out and clean the old caulk and recaulk again to include the entire length of the wood. IF adding screws through the lexan, make sure the drill bits are sharp and do go slowly. crazy Dave condon

Thanks Dave

You know the yacht is only about twelve months old however I think the only option is to pull it out and refix. At the same time I will extend the length of the teak so it goes right to the end of the perspex on each side????

right on

If that peice of wood is not the entire length, you are correct to repalce it. Crazy Dave Condon
