Should the companionway sliding hatch slide all the way forward on the original Cat 28? Mine's a 1991, and as I work through getting acquainted with her I noticed last weekend that mine (when looking up from below) stops sliding about 6 inches from the full forward position against the coach roof proper. It's out just enough that it is difficult to descend the ladder to go below (well, I am 6'2" which may compound the problem a little). As there are 28Mk II 's but no other 28's in my marina to look at I am wondering if this is normal or has something gotten jammed inside between the sliding hatch and it's cover. I need to know before I start tearing things apart to check inside. And, a related question..... has anyone replaced the slider with smoked or tinted plexiglass? My last boat (a Hunter) had this and it made the interior much lighter. Any suggestions/comments appreciated . . . . . Steve B.

It should go all the way back

Steve, Contragulations...it's a great boat. I still have the original hatch. The hatch goes all the way in on my 1990 so I assume it should on yours. I assume it would not be too hard to replace the glassed hatch with an acrylic piece...I don't know what it would cost though. There are some different hatch options here in the owners store. Have a look there for options. Mike Elmore Windward Hull C28-Hull #7

Thanks

Mike - Thanks for the prompt response! I'm going up tomorrow for the weekend so I'll start looking at how to get access to the slider. . . . .
