Sliding hatch cover H23- what adhesive?

Like others on this forum, I broke and am now replacing the sliding hatch cover on my H23. What sealent, adhesive etc. should I use to adhere the new teak strips to the new plexiglass hatch? BTW I took the old hatch to a local glass shop and they advised that the material I was replacing was plexiglass and not lexan. The replacement cost for the hatch from the local shop was $180.00 compaired to $190.00 directly from Hunter (last fall). Hunter advised me that the cover was plexiglass. Maybe changing to lexan is a good idea.

Silicone

Just good old silicone (clear) available at any hardware store. Just be sure not to tighten the screws completly till it has had a chance to set up or it will squish out and there goes your seal..

use rubber

I had a serious problem with my hatch leaking into the cabin. Traced the problem to the wooden strip that acts as a stop when you pull the plexiglass out to lock the cabin. I solved the problem by using a strip of rubber (bicycle tube, etc) between the plexiglass and the woood then made sure the screws were on tight. Have not had a problem since and that was over 5 years ago. It seems that any type of silicone gradually separates from the plexiglass over time due to changes in temperature but the rupper maintains its seal. Happy sailing

Not too tight

Silicon, rubber, pretty much anything works but be real careful not to overtighten the screws or you will crack your new hatch! Snug is all you need, they aren't going any where.
