Sliding Galley Drain

I'm trying to plumb in a drain for my slidding galley. My boat didn't come with the galley when it was new so it doesn't have any plumbing for the drain. Does it hook into the cockpit drain? If so, does it just hook into one of the two drain hoses with a simple tee connection, or does it come in below the valve? Is there any chance for lake water to come up the drain hose? Should there be an inline check valve?

Drain hose connection

Hi mark The connection for the drain hose is to "Tee" into the Cockpit drain on the right side Just above the cockpit "tee". I don't have a check valve in the hose and I have not had any problems. One thing is that the water comes into the hose at about the funnel connection point, this at the waterline of the Catalina 22. You could place a check valve in the line for safety reasons. Be sure that the drain pipe from the sink is about a half inch from the funnel top. This helps from leaks from the drain to the funnel while underway. I have Catalina 22 #81, I built my own galley, it still slides under the cockpit seat area. I have it clamped down the the inside seating area, but I have never had to slide it under the seating area. The Galley has two drawers and one burner stove with a sink. I hope that this helps you. Galley Drain

My "85 has a valve in the drain line just like the valve for the cockpit drains. It's my understanding that the valve should be closed when underway because water will indeed come in the hose and out the funnel when heeled to starboard. I think my hose is plugged because a while back I filled the sink with the valve open and then let it drain and it all came out on the settee surface and then into the storage area under the settee. I've been having so much fun sailing I haven't checked out how to access the hose to funnel connection to replace the hose. Off the top of my head it doesn't seem accessable. Anyone know if I can get to that connection?? Fair winds, Jon C22 Happy Daze

Thanks Guys

Thanks for the responses; you told me what I needed to know. I'm putting a ball valve in my drain line, with the handle protruding through the sidewall below the cone for easier use. I'm also thinking of putting a draincock in the fresh water line with a hose leading to the cone. Thanks again, Mark
