Sleeping in the aft

My aft berth is not set up for sleeping on my 1977 C-30 but I think want to change that. My gas tank is located there. Will I die in the night from the fumes? I know I have seen bedding there on other C-30s but maybe their gas tank was somewhere else. It's a new tank and it doesn't smell very much but it just seems weird to sleep on a gas tank. By the way, it's an Atomic 4 not a diesel.

Mine is setup the same...

Pat, I have a 1977 also, and my DIESEL tank is located under the aft bed also. I was under the impression that they are all like that. I've been sleeping in the aft bed for some time now and haven't even worried about it. I would think that if there were a fuel leak and the cabin was all buttoned up, the fumes would be just as harmful in the forward v-berth. Gary

if you can smell fumes, then you may have a problem to take care of besides where to sleep. my 1976 has the tank back there too, but we use the area for storage of food, life jackets, hatch screen, boat hook and awning and for not sleeping. last weekend we had 5 people sleeping on the boat, 2 in the v-berth, 2 on the dinnete and one on the starboard quarterberth. that was plenty-because they all brought a bag with clothes and personal items which needed to be stowed.
