Sleeping arrangements on an h-27

Greetings all,
I have a 1980 27' Tall Rig. I'm pretty happy with it as I've had it for only about 2 years. One thing it seems to lack is a big comfortable place to slumber. My last boat, a Tartan 27 allowed for the settee to fold out and create a double bunk.
The Hunters have the little cubby for your feet, but I still find myself uncomfortable. The quarter berth feels like a coffin although there is more room to move around than the settee. The v-berth is fine, but at anchor she gets to rockin' some when the weather is blowing.
I bought my girlfriend a Coleman inflatable SUV bed for her Explorer with devious intent. Anyhow I tried it on my boat and it fits perfectly on the cabin sole. Very nice and includes an inflated pillow portion. Unfortunately, it takes up all the walking space when it's deployed.
So here's the question. Where do you all sleep? Do you have any custom jobs you did to make it more comfortable? I remember seeing in an issue of Good Ole' Boat (or practical sailor) where someone created 2x4's boards, etc. which all looked impractical.
Let us know. Thanks!

The V-Berth on the h27 Cherubini is very adequate for a boat it's size. It is long enough for a six footer to stretch out and wide enough or two persons to curl or turn. There is adequate head room to sit up. Did sleep on the settees but preferred the V-berth. It was better than the V-Berth on the h320 and much better than the one on the h34.

I sleep in the q-berth on the H25 but it's pure hell dragging myself out, with bad shoulders and a bad back, after rolling onto my most-bad-est side first. Lying still it's fine.

I have a H30 but just curious, doesn't the H27 port settee fold out like the H30 does?

No, Kito, there is no fold out.
I agree the v-berth is most comfortable. My personal favorite on any boat is a pullman berth.

Reading the above, I've decided that installing a fold-out on the settee is the way to go. (I like the part above about purchasing the girlfriend an inflatable bed "with malicious intent.".......)

I sleep in the V-Berth. A few people with the H-27 have made a piece to span the space between the settees. Take a minute to set in place. I may do soemthing like that next season!

I'm 6ft. tall and OK with sticking my feet up under the anchor locker. I will agree that crawling in and out of it at night is a hassle, especially with my wife in there also.

When I win the lottery, I might upgrade to a boat with a centerline queen berth. <sigh>

We prefer the V-berth, because the forward hatch provides wonderful, cool breeze off the water when we are anchored or moored. We use a wind sock to enhance this effect when needed.

Actually all 5 of the berths on this boat are great to sleep on. (I've used them all over the past 16 summers.)

All of us need to consider how to get out in case of fire. Suppose you can't use the companionway steps. Can you get out another way? I always wondered with my H356 if I could get out of that aft cabin. If there was a fire in the engine area, I would be screwed. Maybe I could go out the aft lazarette but would I have time? I never tried it. If you are in a vee berth could you extricate yourself and get out the hatch fast enough? You could not get a CO for a building dwelling that doesn't have two ways of egress. I think that the same rule should apply for boats if it doesn't already. Sorry to make anyone uncomfortable but this needs to be addressed.

On our 27 we had the same issue, I made filler panels the fit between the settees. I made these in three panels so they fit under the settee cushions and the 1/4 birth cushion. also made two cushion fillers same height as the settee cushions. Now we have a bed larger then a normal Queen bed. There is a slight issue with getting to the head, but it is easy to work around.

Shemandr, I have entered and exited through the forward hatch in the v-berth. A shorter person might need a boost up by stacking the cushions, or with a small step-stool. The two sliding doors for the head would provide good fire barriers while escaping.

Frankly, my first reaction would be to attack an aft (probably engine compartment) fire with the two fire extinguishers mounted on the forward bulkhead of the main compartment.

Where do you store the boards, under the cushions as in the second photo?

This is food for thought.

Yes they store under the settee cushions and the narrow one under the V-birth cushions. This arrangement is larger than a standard queen bed.
