Hi.
A few questions about the silencer.

Is it easy to dry and store?
It seems big, heavy and it also seems to be made out of fabric and must be dried after use.

Anyone have a comment?

Regards
Andreas

slapper operation

It is intended to stop the waves slapping the stern on "sugar scoop" type sterns. course if you anchor the waves are coming from the front. If you are in a marina the waves shouldn't be that big any way. where else would you need the thing.
Totally useless IMHO

Have you tried it Bill?
The users in the forum says it really works and I need something to stop the sound.

I have a few questions about how practical it is when it is not in use.
I hope someone can answer.

Regarding the H340

Regarding the H340, the slap is so bad, even in mild conditions, that the stern berth is unusable in all but the most protected anchorage or dock. The transom pounds like there's no tomorrow. I'll never own another boat with a sugarscoop transom, that's for sure.

OP: I feel your pain, but haven't tried what you're asking about.

We have one and use it a lot when we are at anchor. It works wonders in eliminating transom slap. Bill is correct that in a marina we have not had to use our Slap Silencer, but whenever we are either anchored or tied to a mooring, we use it a lot.

To answer the original question, the SS comes in a cylindrical bag that is easy to store. The base is about 6 or 8 inches in diameter and the length is about 3 or 3 1/2 feet long. We store ours in the wet locker.

The SS has a mesh on one side that does trap some debris. Usually I hose out the mesh side and hose off the SS first thing when we get back to the dock and hang it out to dry while cleaning the rest of the boat. In the sun, it dries fast enough. If not, I hang it up in a head and stow it away next trip to the boat.

If you are having issues with transom slap, I highly recommend this item. It works like a charm.

I know the inventor of the SS. On a bareboat charter in the BVI we met him while anchored in a secluded bay in St John in the early 90's. He lent me one for the H 40.5 we were chartering. Made a HUGE difference to the constant drum of the hull slap. Hang it out on the transom in the morning and its dry very quickly.
I highly recommend it for piece and quiet.
