Hi all, I have a '77 H25. This is only my second season with it and the reefing line on the mail was not setup. Can anyone out there tell me where there might be a diagram explaining how to set it up and use it properly. Thanks all Craig S/V Wind Toy

Craig, It not OEM but try Harken.com

On the Harken site under tech tips are diagrams for reefing system. My 25 did not have a reef system. I installed one base on harkens diagram and it works great.. Ted

REEFING LINE

CRAIG THERE 2 LINES TO REEF THAT SAIL. ONE LINE AT THE MAST. IT GOES THROUGH THE SAIL AT THE MAST & GETS CLEATED OFF AT THE MAST.THE SECOND LINE IS ON THE STARBOARD SIDE OF THE BOOM.IT RUNS FROM THE TIEDOWN ON THE PORT SIDE OF THE BOOM THROUGH THE SAIL DOWN TO THE BLOCK ON THE STARBOARD SIDE,THEN FOREWARD TO THE CLEAT NEAR THE MAST,SO YOU CAN ADJUST BOTH FROM THAT LOCATION. THEN TIE OFF YOUR REEF TIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SAIL. HOPE THAT HELPS. ANY WUESTIONS E MAIL ME AT SKIK24EV4@HOTMAIL.COM

I agree with Ted-- the Harken catalogue has a very nice section in back showing variations of running rigging applications. I was not thoroughly happy with what they showed for slab reefing, although their method is perfectly good in theory. I prefer what Schaefer shows for single-line reefing. One line goes from a pad eye on the side of the boom up through the reef cringle and back through a cheek block on the other side of the boom, then goes forward to another cheek block, up through the cringle at the front, and down to a cleat. It's left loose while sailing without a reef. To reef, slack the halyard, take up on the reef line, reeve your sail stops through the intermediate cringles and bring up the halyard against it when done. As long as the cheek block in back is located correctly (bisecting the angle of pull like a new outhaul) it will work fine. I took off a lot of hardware from the side of my boom to have it this simple-- I'll never go back to the cheek-block-on-track mess again. JC
