I seriously consider to make a skeg to achieve more rudder protection. Has anyone done this already and if so how did you do it and what core material did you use? Thanks and regards, Oliver

Tiller boat is different?

Seems that on the H27s that I have seen the leading edge of the rudder would be too close to the prop. There would be no room for a skeg between the prop shaft and the rudder. But those were wheel-steered boats and your tiller boat is probably different. And Olivier, I appreciated your explanation of the plastic light(lens) problem. But my earlier question was about "windows". Over here we call those portlights. The Related Link is what I have on my H37C.

Tiller model same

As ED said, no room between prop and rudder for skeg.

Lead edge moves

The rudder on our boats is balanced, meaning that it pivots around the post about a third of the way back from the lead edge. So when the rudder is turned, the lead edge as well as the training edge turns off the centerline - and away from the protection of a skeg if there was room for one. We have the shallow draft version of a '77 h27. The keel is deeper than the end of the rudder, offering some protection when we are moving ahead. David Lady Lillie
