Can anyone give me guidance to determine the correct prop size for my H-33.5 with a Yanmar 2GM20F engine and a 2.62 gear ratio? I currently have a Bronze 2 blade prop size 16" x 11" x 1" shaft Dia. A recent evaluation of performance by a good diesel mechanic indicated that the it is over proped. Starting to get some dark smoke at 3000 rpm on engine - OK at 2750.

Please take my advise and let the prop shop determine your prop size/pitch. These guys have the programs to estimate the proper sizing. If you purchase the wrong prop and then determine that you have the wrong one YOU will be responsible for any adjustments. Leave it to the pros.

As Steve said let the pro shop calculate the correct size for a "custom fit" to you boat. They don't charge for this service (at least not the one I have every dealt with) and can get very detailed specs. You will most likely buy from a prop shop anyway so why not get the full service ?
