I just bought a Sirius radio for my car and was thinking of adding another for the boat.

Anyone out there already figured out a good way to mount the antennae? The antennae is a two inch magnetic puck. I have had three thoughts on how to do it:

I. Epoxy it somewhere on the deck

2. Get one of those freakishly strong magnets and put it inside opposite the puck on the outside.

C. Powder coat a piece of ferrous metal and mount it on the deck somewhere

Who has already done this?

try the antenna inside the boat mine works fine. You may have to experiment with placement. same with gps

I installed a satellite radio two years ago. Throw away the puck and buy a Shakespeare rail mount with a satellite antenna that screws on top. I have excellent reception and have installed it on my starboard stern rail. No problems. Clean installation. Best, Rognvald

I installed my stiletto in my cabin on my Catalina 270. The reception wasn't very good inside the cabin so I took the antenna all the way back on the port side under the seats/lockers and put the antenna with the aid of velcro stickies to the top of the stern light housing. The only wires exposed is about 6 inches from the cushions on the aft port locker/seat to the light housing. I could have hidden the wire entirely but I didn't feel like taking the housing for the light out. The reception is wonderful except when my team loses!!!

I just stick the antenea outside the hatch inport or underway no problems. Works fine.

I installed the ultra low profile Sirius antenna shown on the West Marine link. Mounted it on a flat surface aft of the cockpit on the opposite side as the GPS antenna for the chartplotter. Beneteau provided an empty conduit that I used to fish the small coax cable through. I have had it for 2 years and only have a problem with reception if the dog decides to lay her head on the antenna.

I bought the lifetime subscription to Sirius and have the Sportster replay portable receiver that goes from the boat to my pickup to my home stereo. Each extra cradle was $50.00. Can't beat it for tunes, college football and the NFL. I do not have the Sirius marine package though. They want WAY to much for something that I can get for free over the VHF.

Deadhead-listen to Grateful Dead? But here is big ?; with the portable receiver, do you pay just one subscription fee when you move from auto-boat-home-back? Is the reception still "satelite clear"? I had a friend with an "add on" XM receiver patch to his truck radio and it really did not sound near as good a our built in XM.

one fee 1 radio, if you get the kind that is removable and docks in a cradle, such as the portable Stilletto I had,,, miss it,, I could take it to the car, truck boat etc... so basically, 1 radio 1 price tag,,, as for clarity, if you are using an adapter, hard wire will sound better than the frequency to unused fm station adapters

The big answer is that I only paid one subscription fee for the receiver. It is now a few years old so I purchased an identical unit that fits all 3 cradles. I understand that my lifetime subscription is transferable for a nominal fee of $75.00.

When they merged XM and sirius...they dropped the good XM shows.
The ads had gotten out of hand! When I cancelled I told them I was tired of viagra commercials and I did not need a bigger talley-whacker which was most of their ads.
I have only missed the news channels...about three times in just under a year!

I replaced it with an MP3 player and downloaded several hundred songs on it!

I have a XM Skyfi2 and have used it on board for 4 years. I use the home antenna and it is simply sitting in the cabin in the television cabinet area out of sight. The signal strength is 3 bars out of 4 always. The sound quality is fine. The XM signal has no problem getting through the fiberglass deck and cabin headliner. Give it a try before you start drilling holes.
