Excellent article in this month's Passagemaker magazine about a Riveria sportsfisher hitting a whale off the CA coast. Apparently the impact pulled one of the drive shafts out of the hull. The story really keeps you on edge as the owner and a crewmember try to save themselves and the boat. Really scared the bejeezus out of me.The author mentions that one of the teams that came out to help included the harbor master from one of the CA ports. Apparently the harbormaster keeps onboard several of those wax rings that you use to reseat a toilet, and he used one of them to temporarily stop the flow. Says he always keeps them aboard for this purpose. I just can't get an image of how you'd use a wax ring for this purpose. What am I missing?BTW, they ultimately replace the ring with a wooden plug from the water.
