Sink thru hull

I have a 72 Oday 22. I am not using the sink and am thinking about sealing up the hole. Any suggestions on the best method or any reason not to do it?Thanks.

Two reasons not to do it....

In my opinion you'd be better off not doing it. If it doesn't leak now, then let sleeping dogs lie. Removing it and putting something in it's place or sealing it up is time and money you could spend on other things. The other reason is that if you go to sell it, you may have to replace the sink and thru hull or take a slight drop in sales price.A question I have, becuase I'm pretty sure I saw you ask this before. Why do you want to remove the sink?Josh

Cap it off but leave the thru-hull

As a compromise to Josh's plea that you leave things alone, if you really want to get rid of the sink you could cap off the thru-hull on the inside, using a pipe cap if it's threaded or a piece of tubing/hose and a barbed cap if it's barbed. The thru-hull will be there if you or a subsequent owner decides that a sink would be good to have again and you will not have to worry about filling the hole/fairing the hull properly if you remove the thru-hull altogether. You could also use it as a discharge for bilge pump hose in the meantime....

"Cork" The Thru Hull

Don't remove the thru hull fitting. I would leave the hose on it put a cork in the end sealed with "life-calk", do the same to the outside of the fitting. I sealed mine in 1975 and its still well sealed!
