Sink system on a O'Day 222

I just purchased a 1984 O'Day 222 and it did not have any sink or anything resembling how the water is stored and where the waste goes. Does anyone have photos of what is under the sink, or where it is stored both clean and gray water?
Also, it needs all new cabin liner. Any suggestions on where to buy the similar type material used originally?

Thanks for any help.

So I'm not 100% sure that this was the stock set up but on my boat the drain from the sink went directly to the thru-hull under the v-berth located just forward of the sink. The supply line came from under the forward most compartment under the v-berth. Mine did not have a freshwater holding tank so I cannot say what the capacity is supposed to be. It was a small sink that should be located in the smaller compartment in that cabinet just above the lower access door and I had a small pump style faucet. I can post a couple pictures of my boat set up once I get home.

I have made some changes to my interior. I did away with the sink. I'm sure for many folks it is a nice feature but just didn't see myself needing it. So far so good... I feel the easier access to the v-berth is a better option. Again, just my opinion and for my boat uses. The unstained bulkheads are temporary. Going to make them a little larger and put the wooden arch piece back in and beefier chain plates. Don't want to take away from any structural support.

As for the headliner I went with the gray indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. Less expensive than any marine headliner I could find. It was pretty easy to work with and had I had more patience I probably could have had a perfect install. It looks great but I did get a few wrinkles in it around some of the bends.

Hey, I like that idea of not having the sink. That really opened up the whole galley. And I definitely will look into the indoor/outdoor option. Thank so much for the ideas.

I sure would appreciate any photos. The best I can tell, I am missing the tanks and definitely the sink. What is under the sink? I was thinking maybe a tank went under there. Thanks for the help.

Many people with small boats find the sink less than usable. I've heard many Precision owners who use the sink only as a place to throw keys and wallets. I think that lever operated faucet is a joke. Some folks have rigged small electric pumps, others have installed a foot pump, which I think would be a requirement. Still, the foot pump is problematic if you don't have standing headroom. Others prefer a bin and a pump up garden sprayer for cockpit dish washing. I know a guy with a Hunter 23.5 who has a plastic jar with lever spigot that he places on the counter next to the sink. There are many different types, I have a square-ish container which is sold in grocery stores intended to be used in a refrigerator. If you wanted to replace your water tank, I think you could find better results from a flexible bag type tank. I think things like sinks are less than functional marketing appeals in small trailer sailors...

The reservoir for the sink is up front under the V birth, about 3 gallons. There is a hose that goes to the hand pump in the sink. I've rebuilt the pump and it doesn't seem to work. I'll probably go to an electric pump. I cruise, so the sink is handy for washing up. The outlet is starboard forward of the bulkhead. It came with a fitting not suitable for underwater use. I replaced it with a brass fitting and shutoff valve. it used to leak when on starboard tack and bubble up into the sink.

Russ, doing it right with a proper seacock! Do you find the 3 gallons is enough? Do you think you could replace the tank with a higher capacity flexible tank?

Hey thanks for the info. Evidently someone long ago took the sink and all of its plumbing out because there is no sign of there ever being a sink there. I think I'll just put this project off for a while. Thanks again for the help.

One could probably put a 6 gallon tank up there with ease; and maybe squeeze in a 9 gallon tank, but I think it would be tight. Also 9 gallons of water is about 72 pounds. I don't think that you want that kind of weight that far up in the fine pointed bow. I use about a gallon of water a day; so I carry a few one gallon jugs under the V birth right at the bulkhead.
