I just purchased my first boat with sinks ( used 1983 O'Day) and although there is water in the holding tank the hand pumps won't pump water. Can you you tell me what I need to do to get them functioning.

prime it

Remove the cap on the top of the pump and pour water in while pumping it. Once you get some suction, water will start coming up. Cap it and continue pumping until you have all the air out. If its not that, is a pump seal. Buy a new pump at about $20, or replace the seal, (comes with a pump, at about $20)!

Valve on the tank too.

Don't forget to turn the water valve at the tank outlet one too.

o-rings

when I first bought my boat the pump in the galley worked poorly and leaked. I took it out hoping to get a rebuild kit or to replace it. Before going to West M. I took it apart (I like to take things apart) and was able to find o-rings at Ace Hardware that fit and worked perfectly. That was four years ago and it sill works perfectly.

If all else fails, check the JC Whitney catalog on line. In the RV section, you'll probably find what you need to replace or upgrade. Good luck.
