Solo on Erie
Brian,I solo in a Catalina 34 on Lake Erie OFTEN; my wife doen't like sailing all that much. Two or three day solo trips are not unusual. I certainly concur that an Auto Pilot is a great help. When solo, I want all of the help I can get. I therefore use a chart plotter and have roller furling on the main and jib. Safety is a big concern so I wear a life jacket and if there are even minimal waves, I teather myself to a jackline anytime I leave the cockpit (which isn't often)and I will not go out in questionable weather conditions. Single handing is alot of fun.Pete
