I applied for a SINGLE VESSEL LABEL for my boat, as there was never a compliance label on the boat. I also discovered, though not confirmed, that HIN numbers were not required in Canada until 1976....my boat is a '73, hence no HIN. My question is, will Transport Canada issue me with a HIN number with this paperwork (for those that have done this)? I also had to include pictures of the boat, for capacity and horsepower calculations.

and my feeble memory recalls that you will receive a Compliance Certificate with a compliance # on it but I don't think that it was the same as a HIN #. But I could be totally off base as I can't find the info I wrote dwon when I spoke to Trans Canada

I assume, Trans Canada has a database so as not to create a duplicate, but it just seems not right to me. I'm thinking I misunderstood what he was saying, as his mother tongue was French, though his English seemed okay. When I looked at an example of the compliance plate it had a HIN number as well as the compliance number. I guess I'll find out in a few months when this paperwork is returned to me with the new plate.

Single vessel capacity plate
I received my capacity plate this summer from TC, and although I already had a HIN on the boat, (and provided it to thm with my paperwork, the plate came back with another HIN on it, in case boats don't have one. Their return letter explains it well. My boat mfgr went out of production in 1986.

I was hoping that a HIN would be issued. How long was it until you got your plate? The website says it can take up to a year!
