Single Line Reefing

I am considering purchasing a Hunter 336. The reefing lines are not run and the reef point rings that become the clue for each reef are missing. Can these rings be added without removing and replacing the webs sew into the sail that hold them, (split rings)? How does the single line reefing system work well? Other method to reef that is better?

A far better choice than "D" rings would be a small ball bearing block. The single biggest complaint with single line reefing is the difficulty with getting enough tension in the outhaul. This is a direct result of friction due to turning blocks. By minimizing the friction loading you will see a dramatic increase in the ease of using single line reefing. The major advantage to single line reefing is that the main can be reefed from the cockpit and that is a great advantage to short handed sailors.

Thanks

I was looking at the owners manual and it showed blocks attached to rings that were attached to the main with sewn in webs. I could attach the blocks to the webs with out the rings and see if they work. Thanks

Reefing Rings

When I had my main built I had two rings on webbing ( O---O ) run through each cringle at the luff. That allowed me to set up my two reefs on opposite sides by lashing small blocks to the rings.
