Single Line Reefing

Has anyone with a H28 (mine is a 1992) installed a single line reefing system? I looked at my boom and it looks like the pulleys are only on the bottom so I don't know the best way to run a line to the tack of the first reef point. I am currently set up so that I need to lower the main part way and hank on the tack by hand and then tighten the reefing line from the cockpit. Any suggestions on a single line system?

you'll find some pictures and info on this web site - look under the drop down menu Boat Information - select Boat Photos & Spec - choose the H31 - the article is titled somthing about single handing and the lines . . . . . . same set-up should work for you good luck Kurt

Did this on 260.Run line from cockpit to fiddle block at base of mast through large sheave then up to block at reef cringle then down through chain link at goose neck (you have to fool around with this point to be sure when line is tight it pulls in such a way as to take all pressure off slugs in mast) then down to top sheave in fiddle block at base of mast then up to sheave in bottom of boom then out clew end of boom up to block in clew cringle then down to boom tie off. Use large low friction blocks at all points.

Correction? I believe the line going through the chain link(you could use a cheek block our anything that holds proper position, I wasn’t to fond of the idea of drilling holes in the mast on an experiment) at the rams horn goose neck area may be the line when it first comes up from the deck and not when it is coming down. Never the less this area takes some experimentation to assure that when set the line pulls the foot straight forward and the luff straight down.
