Rigging and Problems
Here's how our C30, Amity, is rigged (sorry I don't have a sketch):There's a rail mounted one each side of the aft end of the boom. Line is fixed on moveable padeye on rail on port side of boom; goes up through reefing grommet at clew of sail, and comes back down and through cheek block on rail on port side of boom.Line then goes forward to cheek block on starboard side of mast, up through reef grommet at sailtrack, then down on port side of boom to the deck to a turning block. Line then runs through a cheek block on deck at far port side of cabin trunk, then aft to cockpit through a series of fairleads on the cabintop/deck.This has the advantage of allowing you to use the cockpit winches to tighten the line back up after reefing.I've noted three disadvantages to this system. First, you have to make sure there's a lot of slack in the reefing line when raising the main or the main will hang up. Second, the line always seems to foul in the cheek block on the mast. Third, and most troubling, I've started getting sail chafe below the grommet points at the sail track -- this seems to relate to the line chafing on the sail when it's flaked down.I'm not totally happy with this system but it's how the boat came and it does work, but at times seems more trouble than it's worth.Mike TurnerS/Y AmityLong Beach
